This is another gem wrenched from the pages of the classic Savoy Cocktail Book. It’s one of the first drinks that caught my eye when I flipped through the book for the first time, and a drink I keep coming back to.
Harry Craddock gives it a dubious origin story about an American engineer whose life is saved and in return offers up this recipe, but whatever its origins, it stands the test of time. I substitute dry Pierre Ferrand Curaçao for Cointreau and pair it with Rittenhouse Rye, Cinzano and lime juice.

1 1/2 oz. Rittenhouse rye
3/4 oz. Pierre Ferrand dry curaçao
3/4 oz. Cinzano sweet vermouth
1/2 oz. lime juice
Shake and strain into a coupe.
