the greenpoint

I’m a sucker for a Manhattan variation.

Actually, I’m a sucker for a Manhattan — that classic combination of rye (or bourbon), sweet vermouth, and bitters. So simple, but so tasty. A good vermouth (I like Antica Formula) and a good rye (I like Rittenhouse) makes the drink.

And good cherries, of course. Before I was into cocktails, I never thought I’d spend so much on a jar of cherries — but Luxardo cherries are just so essential.

So, when it comes to Manhattans, why mess with perfection?

Because Manhattan variations are just as wonderful. A good cocktail bar will usually offer a riff on the drink — a delicious complimentary cocktail that’s almost the same, and at the same time, completely different.

We just picked up a bottle of yellow Chartreuse (not easy on the wallet, but worth it). When I stumbled on this Manhattan variation on liquor.com, I knew I needed to try it. I wasn’t disappointed. It’s a slightly more herbal, medicinal cocktail.
