Looking for a way to use some fresh ginger syrup? Or, just looking for an easy-drinking porch cocktail?

So many “summer drinks” are cloyingly sweet, or too fruity and mask the taste of the spirits. By contrast, the Backsliding Presbyterian is fresh, fruity, refreshing, but sophisticated. I’m planning on making a pitcher for my next summer party.

2 oz. bourbon
1/2 oz. Campari
1 oz. fresh lime juice
1 1/2 oz. ginger syrup
Seltzer

Shake bourbon, Campari, lime juice and ginger syrup with ice, strain into a highball glass filled with ice. Top with seltzer and garnish with an orange slice.
